Lubbock Cup 2010 - 2nd Leg On Sunday July 18th, saw the return leg of the Lubbock Cup being played at High Elms. This is an annual event played to commemorate the Lubbock family who donated the land, on which High Elms Golf course sits, to the people of Bromley. It is played on a home and away basis. Each team is made up of 6 pairs playing 4 ball better ball matchplay. The winner is the club with the best aggregate score over the 2 legs. High Elms currently hold the trophy. The Chelsfield team arrived at High Elms on a pleasant Summer's day with high hopes of winning the trophy. After some wonderful performances in the first leg, they held a 4 ½ - 1 ½ lead from the first leg. However, as the day progressed, it became evident that home advantage would play a big part in the results. Having lost their match the previous day at Braeside in the Penfold match, Cliff Lowles and Ian Turner were in no mood to lose twice in the same weekend. Their Chelsfield opponents were victims of some excellent golf and High Elms went on to comfortably win these matches, with Ian powering to an impressive 6 & 5 win.
However, the other 4 matches were much more tight, with 3 of the matches going up the 18th. Unfortunately, for Chelsfield 3 of the games went the way of High Elms and the 4th ended up in a friendly half. Combining the 2 legs resulted in an overall win for High Elms, 7 - 5. After the match, the teams settled down to a lovely roast dinner. Once dinner was finished and the speeches were completed, Alan Frost, as the winning team captain, was presented with the trophy. The team and their results on the day are as follows :-
