Good news in the Daily Mail Foursomes with Doreen Shaw and Dorothy Featherstone defeating Redlibbets at home in the second round. They face the rather daunting prospect of Westerham away in the next round.

In Kent competitions, Ann Brown and Jean Dignam unfortunately lost away to Canterbury the first round of the Coombe Cup. In the Tappin Trophy, the team of Chris Watmough, Lynn Banner and Pam Richards also lost, this time to Nizels at home in the first round. We were lucky enough to have a bye into the second round of the mixed foursomes Captains' Cup and will play Rochester & Cobham away on 7th May. In the individual Three Feathers competition, both Jean Dignam and Dawn Bell were given byes into the third round by their opponents, there was victory for Doreen Shaw, but sadly defeat for Lesley Barton.

The Bader Cup mixed Greensomes qualifier saw Trevor and Maggie Glaum, with 47 points, triumph over Terry Large and Chris Long (with 41 points) who had been the winners in the two previous years. Trevor and Maggie will now play in the Kent and Surrey regional final at North Downs on Tuesday August 10th. As only 8 couples played, we had a shortfall in the entry fees but thanks to Sharon Assemakis, who held a raffle, and the generosity of all who she cornered in the bar, we raised the rest of the money, and some more besides.

The Penfold League is now up and running with the midweek ladies drawing 1½ to 1½ at home to Upchurch and the weekend ladies losing at home to Braeside by 2½ to ½. The weekend ladies' next match is away to Cobtree on Saturday May 22nd.

In the first leg of the mixed friendly match with The Oaks played at home the result was 3½ to 2½ to High Elms with wins for Maggie & Trevor Glaum, Lesley Barton & Mark Payne and Sandra Vaughan & Ian Stewart. Special mention must go to Sharon Assemakis who was without a partner but played on her own and was actually 2 holes up at one stage, but couldn't sustain her progress and lost. The return match at The Oaks will be played later in the year.

All club competition results are now posted on the HowDidIDo website (www.howdidido.co.uk), as are the updated handicaps which show both Active and Inactive handicaps. Remember you must have an Active handicap to win a Club competition, although you can play in order to make your handicap Active (you need to submit 3 cards to do that). If you looked at the site, it is well worth a visit. If you have any queries about handicaps, contact Dawn Bell, the Handicap Secretary, on 01689 817722 (evenings).
