Rose Bowl We held our Ladies' Shire Bowl (also know as the Rose Bowl) on Thursday, 30 July at Dulwich & Syndenham Hill Golf Club. Our first tee time was 11am when the heaven's decided to open up. We all made a sterling effort to continue in the adverse weather conditions but it was thought best to curtail the event to a 9-hole competition because of the thunder and lightening and the wind and rain that didn't look like it was going to give up. Having said that, once we all came in, showered and changed, the sun came out and it turned out to be a brilliant afternoon. However, we were all completed shattered by this time having battled the elements for 3 hours. Anyway, I am delighted to say that Jean Dignam won the Rose Bowl with 17 points and Norma Izard was second with 16. We had two nearest the pins and no longest drive. The two pin prizes were both on the front nine, which was one good thing. One of my playing partners, the marvellous Lynn Banner, won it on the 6th and brilliant Jean D on the 9th. We had a delicious meal afterwards and admired the fantastic views of London and its suburbs from the clubhouse. We all had a thoroughly good time.
I am also delighted to say that Dulwich & Syndenham showed us fantastic hospitality and have said we can all go back together as a group and play 18 holes on a mutually convenient date. Sharon Assemakis
