Captains' Drive-In 2009 Jim Colleary, Sharon Assemakis and Malcolm Burton would like to thank all those who took part in the 2009 Captains' Drive-In on Sunday, 19 April. The day was a great success with some 80 members taking part in what turned out to be a very cold day. We are happy to announce that £113 was raised in the raffle for this year's Captains' Charity, the Macmillan Cancer Trust. The course is now looking good after the extreme winter weather conditions and we were fortunate enough to play off the grass tees. The Ladies' first prize went to Doreen Shaw with 32 points and the 2nd Prize went to Christine Long with 31 points. The ladies' nearest the pin was won by Jean Dignam and the straightest drive went to Norma Izard. The men's first prize went to Barry Edwards with 36 points, the 2nd went to Andy Ferguson, who also won nearest the pin on the 16th and 3rd, on count-back, went to our only junior of the day Andrew Vaughan with 35 points. The men's scratch prize went to Dean Turner with an impressive 76 gross - one over his handicap. A very impressive longest drive was won by Matt Burns on the 4th. We would like to thank Jon Dummet and his staff for their assistance with respect to the course, the pro shop and catering. We had a great day. The concessions added remarkably to the success of the day and the course was set up to of an interestly difficult standard by Matt Burns, which reflected in the scores. We would like to mention that these events are put together by people who willingly donate their spare time to make sure we get as much pleasure as possible out of the day, so our extended thanks go to John Featherstone, Mick Collins and Alan Frost, who ensured we got off to a timely start. Also to Andy Brzozowski and Jean Dignam who both did an excellent job with the score cards and computerised final But, of course, it is the participants who results. truly made this an outstanding day. Your support, as always, is very much appreciated. We're looking forward to getting together again in the not too distant future.
