High Elms Golf Club

General Rules

1 All players in each and every competition must be in possession of a valid green fee ticket before commencing their round. Any player reported for non-payment of a Green fee to the Committee by the security staff or professional shop staff shall be disqualified from that competition.

2 All competitions shall be played from the medal teeing area unless these are made

3 Members are reminded that a player cannot practice on the course on the same day as they play a strokeplay or stableford competition, but may before a match.

4 All knockout competition rounds must be played by the date shown on the draw sheet. Failure to do this will result in disqualification of one or both players/pairs. It is the responsibility of both players/pairs to arrange their matches. If this should prove difficult then they should report to the Competition Secretary for a decision or assistance. The Competition Secretary's decision will be final.

5 Finals in the Singles Knockout, John Baker Plate, Alan Hodgson Pairs, Under 12 Knockout and the Phoenix Cup shall be played over 36 holes. Other finals shall be played over 18 holes, unless posted otherwise.

6 Ties - In knockout competitions, ties will be determined on a 'sudden death' principle. In strokeplay or stableford competitions ties shall be determined, with the appropriate handicap allowance being applied, as follows :-

1) For 18 hole events, the best score for the last 9 holes will be used. If there is still a tie, then use the last 6, 3 and 1 holes until a winner is determined. If a tie still persists, then go hole by hole from the 18th backwards.

2) In 27, 36, 54 & 72 hole events, the last eighteen holes shall be used and if still tied, then use the count-back procedure as described in 1 above.

7 Four cards a year must be submitted (from qualifying competitions) to be eligible to play in the following year's Club Knockout Competitions. Failure to do so will result in suspension from those competitions.

8 Mixed Events
The following recommendation has been extracted from the CONGU Unified Handicapping System booklet. 'When ladies are in Stroke Play, Par, Stableford, or Match Play competition with men, it is recommended that the following adjustments to handicaps should be a condition of the competition and should be made before the Handicap Allowance is calculated'.

SUMMER CARD
When Ladies play from Ladies' Tees at High Elms
Because the men's Standard Scratch Score is less than the ladies' Standard Scratch Score, the ladies' handicaps should be increased by 2 shots (the difference between the Standard Scratch Scores).
When Ladies play from Men's Tees at High Elms
Because the men's Standard Scratch Score is less than the ladies' Standard Scratch Score, the ladies' handicaps should be increased by 2 shots, plus an additional 3 strokes because of the extra length on the men's course over the 18 holes (One shot for every 180 yards).

Scores returned by ladies playing from men's tees will not count for handicap purposes unless a ladies' Standard Scratch Score has been assessed from the men's tees in accordance with the System.

WINTER CARD
When Ladies play from the Mats at High Elms
Because the men's Standard Scratch Score is less than the ladies' Standard Scratch Score, the ladies' handicaps should be increased by 4 shots (the difference between the Standard Scratch Scores).

9 Unless a minimum number of 6 men or 4 ladies (or pairs) have signed to start in a club competition, the competition will be deemed to be void.

10 Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Committee, some dates in the programme may be altered so please check with the notice board for confirmation of events.

11 Men's competitions are not handicap qualifiers unless specified. Ladies competitions, unless otherwise stated, will be handicap qualifiers. Ladies competitions noted as LGU Qualifiers are qualifying competitions for LGU Bronze and Silver Medals. All players MUST have a current handicap to play in competitions.
